Starting in 2024, to get the federal tax credit for new or used vehicles, you must purchase from a dealership that has registered with the IRS. This is true both if you want to get the federal tax credit at the point of sale and if you plan to claim it when you file your taxes. In either case, the dealership must give you (a) a Seller Report and (b) confirmation that they have successfully submitted the Seller Report to the IRS.
Currently, the IRS has not published a list of registered dealerships. We are actively trying to find or build one; for now, check with the dealership to make sure they are registered.
Additionally, not every version of a vehicle model that is eligible for the federal tax credit will necessarily qualify. Check with the dealer/seller to determine the eligibility of your specific vehicle.
